Description: The trend in our society continues to move toward patient-centered and total health care. We know how dental disease affects the body and how chronic conditions affect our oral health. But what holistic factors not taught in our formal education should we be aware of and be able to talk to our patients about? What should we be doing for ourselves to keep our own bodies healthy? Many types of holistic health practices, formerly thought of as "woo-woo," are now accepted and perceived as within "the box" by alternative healthcare and have scientific backing.

Objectives - Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • An overview of Eastern medicine and Qi;
  • Understand meridians of the body and tooth/organ relationships;
  • Explore tongue reading by color and texture, giving clues to health;
  • Discuss vibrations and music;
  • Define why "woo-woo" works with scientific findings on energy practice.

Description: Cultural competency training has become the mainstay of healthcare education, recognized as critical for increasing the healthcare worker's capacity to offer culturally appropriate care to reduce health disparities and improve access to high-quality health care. While cultural competence is of critical importance, current research points to limitations in cultural competence training, indicating the need to examine many other factors to tackle the monumental challenge of eliminating health disparities, particularly in dentistry. This course will explore the paradigm shift toward cultural humility: being open to sharing power with patients and to continue to learn from them while providing care with critical self-reflection, empathy, respect, and an awareness of how people's culture can impact their health behaviors.

Objectives - Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Define and understand the concepts of culture, cultural competence, cultural awareness, and cultural humility;
  • Discuss limitations of cultural competency training such as stereotyping, stigmatizing, and othering patients;
  • Evaluate the impact of implicit bias on personal behavior and patient care interactions;
  • Explain the role cultural humility plays in creating deeper connections and understanding between patients and providers, reducing health disparities, and improving access to high-quality health care.

Description: Dental Unit Waterlines (DUWLs) are in the news and on OSHA inspection checklists. But the process of testing and treating waterlines is often misunderstood or even forgotten. Science shows us that many of the aerosols we produce in our operatories come directly from the biofilm growth in our DUWLs. And just like the biofilm in the mouth, it can be stubborn to remove. How can you keep you and your patients safe? In this dynamic presentation, attendees will learn the why, how, and the what of dental unit waterline compliance. From testing to daily maintenance, this course will turn you into a Waterline Warrior and motivate you to return to the op and Crash the Biofilm Party!

Objectives - Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of clean dental unit waterlines;
  • Define the steps needed to "pass the test"- shock, test, treat, and maintain;
  • Discuss products on the market that can make your job easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these CEs meet the requirements for my state?

  • Today's RDH is an ADA CERP and AGD PACE provider, both of which are recognized by all 50 states. According to CE provider accreditation guidelines, live, interactive, and streaming events are considered a live CE as long as Q & A is offered at the end of each course. This event will be streamed live by Today's RDH, and the speakers will be available for Q & A after their presentation. All CE certificates issued will state this is a live event.

    Your state's Dental Practice Act, which can be found on your state's Board of Dentistry/Board of Dental Examiners website, includes your allowable duties, CE requirements, the rules pertaining to your state, etc. We highly encourage all dental healthcare professionals to check their state's Dental Practice Act often as rules, regulations, and CE requirements can change.

How do I get my certificate/proof of completion? Will it be emailed?

  • You will receive your CE certificate of completion via email within 7 days after the event concludes. It is very important that you use the same email address to log in to each individual course as you used to register for the event. If you use different emails, there is no way to verify your attendance with your purchase. Please note you must be logged on to each course for at least one hour and 40 minutes per accreditation guidelines to receive CE credit.

    We do recommend you create a SimpleCert account. Once your attendance is verified, your CE certificates will be there, as well as emailed. If you do not receive your CE certificates or only receive some of them, CHECK YOUR SPAM BOX. Again, please give us 7 days to verify attendance before reaching out to support.

Are these CE courses considered "live" or "in-classroom?"

  • Yes, these courses are considered "live" and "in-classroom" and are recognized as such by AGD PACE and ADA CERP because the presenters are presenting live (not pre-recorded) and will be available to answer questions from participants during and after their course presentation (i.e., "interacting with the presenter"). The certificate of completion (CE certificate) will state it was a live course.

    Note for Tennessee: As of July 1, 2022, a live interactive webinar is to be considered in-person continuing education. This amendment to the statute defines a "live interactive webinar" as an internet based broadcast in which viewers may interact with a presenter in real time.

Are these courses considered "clinical" or "core" classes?

  • To figure out if the courses are clinical or core, you need to check your specific state's Dental Practice Act, which gives the requirements and what is accepted.

Is this going to be offered any other days besides the day listed?

  • This event (courses/speaker lineup) will be live-streamed during the scheduled date and times only. There are no plans for it to be available for replay, self-study, or on-demand.

When is your next live, virtual event going to be?

  • We plan each live, virtual CE event one at a time. We aren't organizing and planning our next event right now, so we don't know. However, if you'd like to be the first to know when we announce our next event, you can sign-up for our email list by going to todaysrdh.com and sign-up in the box that says, "Get Today's RDH Sent Directly to Your Inbox." We also offer on-demand (not "live") CE courses which can be found here: https://dentalce.todaysrdh.com/

When will I receive an email with links to each course to log on?

  • Once you register for the event, you will receive an email with your links for each course. Be sure to check your SPAM folder. In order to properly track attendance for the event, each attendee will have unique links to log in to each course: one link per course, for a total of four links. Do not share your links with anybody, or you will not receive your CE Certificates of Completion for attending. If you share, and more than one person is logged on using your link, the tracking software to verify how long you were in attendance for each course won't work correctly.

What is the latest to sign-up?

  • The latest to sign-up is 15 minutes before the the last course of the day or when it sells out.

Are there breaks?

  • Yes, there will be 15-minute breaks between each course.

Do I have to sit and watch the whole thing?

  • Yes, just like if you went to an in-person dental conference and took CE courses, it would be in your best interest to pay attention the whole time. If there are certain courses you don't want credit for, you can step away at those times. There will be breaks in between the courses. Please remember you must be logged in to each two-hour course for a minimum of one hour and 40 minutes per accreditation guidelines to receive CE credit. The webinar software tracks your time in the event, and there will be no exceptions made to those who do not attend for the minimum amount of time.

What if I only want a couple of the courses being offered?

  • These courses are being sold as a package. If you prefer not to watch or take a certain course offered, you are free to step away during that time and come back for other courses during the day.

Will these courses be recorded and offered later?

  • Because this is a live event, it can only be watched at the time listed.

Are there test questions at the end of each course?

  • Unless your state requires a quiz/assessment to be taken at the completion of live CE courses, there will not be a quiz. For those states that do require a quiz, quizzes for each course will be made available.

Are there refunds?

  • Full refunds (minus Eventbrite fees) will be available through August 19, 2022. Starting August 20, 2022, no refunds will be offered. Please make sure you can attend before purchasing and that you have a strong internet connection.

Are these courses only for hygienists, or can doctors and dental assistants receive CE too?

  • These courses can be taken by doctors, hygienists, and dental assistants for CE credit.

Can Canadians receive CE credit for these courses?

  • Canada recognizes CE Courses that have AGD PACE approved providers, so yes. However, we cannot guarantee, so we always recommend checking with your governing agency to confirm approval.

Can we sign-up as a group, or does everyone need to sign-up separately?

  • Each person who wants to receive CE credit needs to register and login into each course individually. This is because CE certificates are awarded based on comparing who purchased tickets and how long that person attended each course.

Is there a cap on the number of attendees?

  • There is a cap of 5,000 attendees.

What is the processing fee for?

  • The processing fee is an Eventbrite fee they charge for using their software.

Do I have to watch this on a laptop?

  • You can watch from any device with an internet connection or data, including laptops, desktops, tablets, or your smartphone.

What happens if I get disconnected?

  • Click on the course link again and log back in on the same device with the same name and email. If you get disconnected again, try using a different device like a cell phone, but please make sure you are using the same name and email.

Are these CEs reported to CE Broker?

  • Not directly. Just like an in-person conference, the certificate needs to be manually submitted to CE Broker. To do this, you will need to upload the CE Certificate of Completion to your CE Broker account.

Why aren't these CE courses free?

  • There are costs for putting on events like this; an IT team to ensure the event runs smoothly, speaker compensation, software costs, etc. To offer CE courses at no cost, we would need to have sponsors (i.e., manufacturers/companies pay for our expenses), and this event is completely non-sponsored. Though there is a cost to attend this event, it tends to be cheaper than attending an in-person dental conference, especially for those in rural communities who have added travel and hotel costs on top of in-person conference registration fees.

Can the course presenters hear or see me?

  • No, the speakers can't see or hear you. You interact with them through a live chat.

Why is this event on a Friday?

  • Before we organize these live CE events, we've put out surveys. We base which courses are being offered and the day most people prefer based on the feedback from these surveys. The majority stated they prefer a Friday or Saturday. Our last event was on a Saturday (May 14, 2022), so we are holding this event on a Friday (August 26, 2022). Though we try, we simply cannot please everyone.
