We may be a bit biased being a dental hygiene publication and all, but we think dental hygienists are awesome people! So, just for fun, the following are seven reasons why dating or marrying a dental hygienist is a wonderful thing!

1) Dental hygienists are well-educated

Hygienists have spent years in college and have gone through rigorous training to get where they are. So, needless to say, hygienists are hardworking and well-educated, having taken rigorous courses in anatomy and physiology, biology, pharmacology, and many others. Becoming a hygienist requires perseverance and commitment, which makes them quite dedicated. On top of this, hygienists tend to have an eye for detail. In short, hygienists are smart!

2) Hygienists are fantastic kissers

As prevention specialists working in patients’ mouths for a job, hygienists know exactly how to take care of their oral health. As such, it’s probably safe to say their oral health is superb. You won’t likely have to worry about kissing somebody with bad breath when you are with a hygienist! You better bet they brush at least twice per day and clean between their teeth. Hygienists know what inflammation, infection, and disease look like and oral health’s association with overall health. They won’t be having any of that!

3) Hygienists have time for family

Generally speaking, hygienists work more family-friendly hours – no graveyard shifts or working all weekend. This means they have plenty of time to relax at home with friends and family. As such, it’s really easy for hygienists to balance home life with our work life perfectly.

4) Hygienists will help you take care of your oral hygiene

Have you found yourself not cleaning in between your teeth enough? Or maybe you go to bed without brushing your teeth? Regardless of any less-than-stellar habits you may have regarding your oral hygiene, a hygienist to the rescue! Hygienists won’t just nag to better care for your mouth – they will actually teach you proper techniques and explain the importance of good oral health. (Hint: bacteria, inflammation, infection, oh my!) If you marry or date a dental hygienist, you won’t just have a beautiful smile – you will have a healthy one, which matters most!

5) Hygienists will always make sure you don’t have anything stuck between your teeth

Something stuck between your teeth? Hygienists will always be the first to point it out when no one else will. This isn’t about calling you out – they just can’t help but notice. It’s nice to have someone with attention to detail around to point out the more embarrassing things in life, especially when you are in public!

6) Hygienists are great listeners who truly care

Hygienists speak with so many personality types day in and day out that they know how to actively listen and show they care about what you have to say. They even work with challenging patients occasionally, but remain patient and understanding. If you want someone who is ready to listen, then a hygienist is your best bet!

7) You will never run out of toothpaste, floss, or toothbrushes ever again

Dental hygienists have an endless supply of oral health care products. Hygienists have access to samples from dental manufactures, and if they have to, don’t put it past them to go out and buy something just to try themselves. Simply put, hygienists always have a fresh toothbrush on hand if needed.

In Closing

Dating or marrying a dental hygienist is amazing! They are educated and passionate about things they love. Hygienists are patient, caring, and honest. Most importantly, they love being there for people. If you ever need someone to depend on, a dental hygienist will be there for you!
